SPECIAL NOTE
A few items to keep in mind when using drop out molds:
  • Fuse two or three layers of glass into your "blank" that will be slumped  The thickness will determine how deep a vase you can create
  • The blank should be close to the size of the drop out ring, BUT NOT LARGER. If it is even slightly oversize, the excess will drape over the outer edge of the ring and make removal impossible
  • Keep an eye on the progress of your slump. If the glass heats too quickly, you will get results with paper thin walls. If left too long, all of the glass will flow to the kiln shelf below, leaving an interesting blob.
