Vitreous Paints

PAINTING MEDIUMS are mixed with the powdered paints to allow the paints to be applied to your glass with a brush. They are the vehicle (and sometimes the binder – to hold the paint on the glass until it is fired) for applying your paint. Several mediums are available depending on your painting technique and your personal preferences. All should burn off cleanly upon firing.

CLOVE OIL (#R MED 1916) is a very slow drying oil that is extremely good for mixing paints and for applying tracings and fine, detailed lines. One lb Jar (approx 16 fl. oz.).   $36.89

KLYR-FIRE® (#73740 – 16 oz bottle) from Thompson Enamel is a multi-purpose water-soluble mixing medium which cleans up easily and doesn't emit the fumes associated with other binding agents (such as squeegee oil). Klyr-Fire is frequently used in Pâte de Verre and also as a low tack fusing glue. We've even seen recipes using Klyr-Fire and borax to make your own devitrification spray.  $12.99

WATER FRIENDLY MEDIUM FOR USE WITH ENAMELS
This is the perfect binder to use when working with enamels.  For most painting applications, add a couple drops of WFM to the enamels and then add as much water as required to get the consistency you are after.  When fired, WFM will burn off cleanly with no nasty residue.  Since WFM is a water base, you don't need to worry about needing to use solvents when cleaning your brushes.
